LGBTQ Center United States + Google Map

Queer Grad & Professional Students (QGAPS) and Training Initiatives in Biomedical & Biological Sciences (TIBBS) are co-hosting a special event to celebrate Black History Month and honor Black & queer change-makers who paved the paths we walk on today!

Two documentaries will be shown:
1) “My Name is Pauli Murray” about Durham native, Pauli Murray, a queer, Black, pioneering civil rights lawyer whose legal arguments were years ahead of their time and served as the basis for school desegregation, equal employment rights for women, and LGBTQ protections for employees.
2) “Paris is Burning” a 1990 film chronicling the experiences of the Black, Latino, gay, and trans communities that shaped the “Golden Age” of New York City’s drag balls.

Get cozy at the LGBTQ Center’s famous purple couch and enjoy PIZZA, popcorn, soda, juice, laughs, tears, and community! Grad & professional students from all departments and non-student loved ones are welcome! Bring your favorite blanket, pillow, or snuggie! LGBTQIA+ identified folks and allies are welcome!
