Campus Rec- Hike 5 Peaks of Hanging Rock

Want to see breathtaking views of the Piedmont Plateau? Come and test your mettle with us. Our group will hike over 10 miles with 2,000+ ft. gain of elevation as we circumnavigate Hanging Rock State Park. We’ll visit each of the 5 Peaks of the park as we hike along the ancient Sauratown Mountains. Expect views from Hanging Rock itself as well as the other 4 major summits in the park.
This is a full-day program. Estimated start / finish time: 7 AM – 6 PM (but could be later as dictated by the pace of the group). Transportation, breakfast, hot drinks, and lunch provided.
On this trip you will learn:
-Leadership concerning group pacing and decision making
-Reading maps
-Basics of navigation and estimating travel time on foot
Activity Level: Moderate.
We will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the Outdoor Education Center (15 min. walk from the Union) at 7 pm on Wednesday, prior to the trip.
If you cancel after making a reservation, we can ONLY offer a full refund if we can get someone else from the wait-list into your spot. Alternatively, you’re also welcome to have a friend come in your stead. Please contact ShaneA@email.unc.edu for more information or questions.
If this trip is full, you can sign-up to be on the waitlist online, or by visiting the Campus Rec Main Office located (SRC 101). No payment is necessary when signing up for the waitlist. Priority is given to those first on the waitlist. Registration deadline is the Wednesday prior to the trip.
