Initiative for Minority Excellence (IME)
The Initiative for Minority Excellence (IME) focuses on the retention and the successful graduation of our racially/ethnically diverse graduate students through creating a CommUNITY of Excellence.
How We Create Student Success
Engage:
We build cohesive and supportive network through programming opportunities and peer mentoring. IME provides programming opportunities, including professional development seminars and social activities.
Empower:
We bring together student-led affinity groups in a safe space for support and encouragement. These groups include the following:
- Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Grads
- Brotherhood of Success (BOS)
- La Familia: Now a stand-alone student group Latine Graduate & Professional Student Association (LGPSA)
- Sisterhood of Empowerment in Academe (SEA)
Equip:
We provide resources that impact retention and time to degree.
“I love coming to IME and La Familia events. They’re a breath of fresh air, and the staff and students are all amazing people. Thank you y gracis; y’all rock.” —UNC-Chapel Hill graduate student
