A SchadAlli Schad is a final year Master’s student in the School of Social Work, specializing in integrated health care, mental health, and addiction treatment.

1. What made you decide to pursue a graduate degree?

I wholeheartedly believe in the unlimited potential of all people and the duty we have to support each other’s wellbeing. My belief in social justice and social equity called me to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work.

2. What’s the thing you love most about Chapel Hill?

The people. I absolutely love how welcoming and reliable people are in Chapel Hill. I love that when people in this town say they’re going to do something, you can count on them to do it.

3. If you had any advice for someone thinking about pursuing a graduate degree, what would it be?

Follow your heart. If you have a passion for any subject or profession, dedicate yourself to it. Your gumption and dedication is welcome and needed in this world!

4. What is your dream career after you’ve completed your studies?

As a Medical Social Worker, I dream of a career where I can provide mental health care, help people access services they need, and build better systems of care to improve the health outcomes and quality of care received by all people, regardless of their race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, or gender-identity.
